About Journal Impact Factor
The impact factor of a journal is a measure of the frequency with which the average article in that journal has been cited in a particular year. The Journal Impact Factor is used to decide the importance of a journal to its field.
Impact Factor is obtained from Journal Citation Reports (JCR) of Clarivate Analytics.
The impact factor can be calculated after completing a minimum of 3 years of publication. For that reason, Journal Impact Factor cannot be calculated for new journals. The journal with the highest Impact Factor is the one that published the most commonly cited articles over a 2-year period.
In a given year, the Impact Factor of a journal is the average number of citations received per article published in that journal during the 2 preceding years. Impact Factors are calculated each year by Thomson scientific.
